When their producer Bobby Martin suggested a name change for Patricia from Holt to LaBelle, the group started seeing success with LaBelle leading the Belles to Top R&B success. After the group signed with Atlantic records in 1965 and Birdsong left, the trio continued to work together as the ‘70s allowed for a makeover, which along with a new look and manager came a new name – LaBelle. Over the next few years the group continued to change record labels and their sound, hitting a more R&B rock genre and a core with their single “Lady Marmalade.” The number one single found LaBelle struggling to see a successor, and after a few commercial disappointments the group split in the cheap oakley sunglasses mid ‘70s.
